Least favourite thing about travelling

I’m a Maldivian, I’m brown, and I am tired of being looked at suspiciously.

I’m talking about the looks we get at the borders of almost every single country we visit. The endless questions even when you have a valid and bloody expensive visa. Why are you here? What do you do? Are you a Muslim? Show me where you’re staying? When is your return flight? How did you get your job? How did you get your Maldivian passport? (what????????!!!) Even for countries where we don’t need a visa (for eg. India), we get bombarded every few steps asking where our visa is. We get that they’re just doing their jobs. But it doesn’t make it any less frustrating.

Despite this “minor” inconvenience we experience at borders, we continue travelling. Because we love travelling. I have travelled to over 30 countries in the past 7 years with my amazing husband. We gift each other travel experiences for our anniversaries and birthdays. We love meeting new people, experiencing new cultures and most of all, trying out cuisines from all over the world. Life is short and we’re only here for a visit. Let’s make the most of it and enjoy as much as we can!

What is your most favourite and least favourite thing about travelling?

PS. Sorry about the short rant.

Happy travels,

Amana

If you’re looking to apply for a Schengen visa, have a look here to see how you could apply for multiple entry visa. We’ve been trying to be a bit more active here on our blog and have been posting more than usual. Check out our other posts for some travel inspiration. One of our favourite trips was to Morocco a couple of years back. We did a 10 day trip around the country which you can read about here.
