Schengen Visa Applications from Maldives Soon

Swiss Mountain

Hallelujah!

Woke up this morning to find some great news for Maldivians keen to travel to the Schengen countries. Ahmed Shian, special delegate to European Union from Maldives, revealed that Schengen visa applications will be taken from Maldives very soon. Currently, Maldivians keen to travel to Schengen countries can apply from Sri Lanka only.

He assured that all the work is now complete and all that is left now is to push the official paperwork through, which could take three to four months. Ministry of Foreign Affairs has apparently been working on bringing this service to Maldivians since last year.

Does that mean that the ministry saw our plea last year asking them to help Maldivians out in our previous post on visas?? Highly unlikely but let’s say that’s what happened 😀

From what I imagine, it could be that just one or two Schengen countries has agreed to give Schengen services in the Maldives. Which would mean that Maldivians will only be able to apply from those countries as the main destination only. This is not a problem since you can apply for multiple entry and visit other destinations.

Another possibility is that it would be VFS service currently being provided in Sri Lanka (and almost every other country in the world). Either as a sub branch of VFS Sri Lanka or Maldivian VFS office. I assume this would be costlier since there would be VFS fees and whole load of other nonsense.

How do you think they will provide this service? Let us know your thoughts!

Happy Travels!
