Dreams be Dreams?

Dreams be dreams?

Let me start this post with a question.

Have you ever looked at a picture of the Eiffel Tower, the long tail gondolas floating along the waters, the ever so slightly leaning tower or the colourful hilltop houses along the coast and thought to yourself… if only i could be there.. but then immediately dismissed the idea that it could be a reality?

I have.

Rewind back to six, seven years. That was my thoughts exactly. I was a student on a normal student budget. I cut corners to go shopping and karaoke, but never to go travelling. Maybe I was lazy. Or maybe I just thought it was too much effort. Or maybe, I just dismissed travel as being a fantasy.

And here I am now, I’ve travelled to 28 countries and plan on travelling even more.

So what changed?

I started working. And started to earn my own money. We went on our first trip to Paris back in 2013 for our first wedding anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Unpopular opinion: We think it is the most overrated city though… Anyway, we got a multiple entry Schengen visa for a month at that time. So we thought we’d go to Italy and Spain as well. I think this was when I fell in love with travelling. I started craving the idea of being able to achieve that dream I never thought I could attain in a million years. We’ve both experienced so much since then. Different cultures, food, languages, you name it.

We’ve both been working full time for almost 4 years now. Anything left over after paying rent and bills (and other misc expenses and of course shopping), we save. We plan ahead and use our savings to travel. I now need to cut down on shopping so we both save enough to go to Santorini…

Let’s try and make our dreams a reality! Don’t let your dreams be just dreams.

Happy travels,
Amana

    1. Hello! A week in Paris I would say would cost around a $2000. Paris accommodation is quite expensive and the rooms are pretty small but you would be expected to pay about $100-$120 a night for a decent accommodation. For food, I would say roughly $10 for 2 people for breakfast if not included in the hotel. Then small lunch another $10 and about $30-$50 for dinner per day. Unless you eat from somewhere like McDonalds of course 🙂 Add to this any tours you would want to take and entrance fees to tourists attractions. Hope this helps!

  1. The down side of working full-time is you never get the holidays you need to go traveling. Story of my life currently! 😂
But you’re right, dream… Then work hard and plan plan plan!! 😁

    1. So true! We get 25 days of holiday a year and are always looking for bank holiday weekends to make the trips longer. If only we could travel full time haha
