An Unexpected Night in Singapore

Beast from the East

It’s Friday. It’s snowing. I’m excited. Not because it’s snowing. Not because it’s Friday. But because our flight is tonight. I’m nervous though. It’s snowing and it could cancel the flight to Bangkok via Singapore. Beast from the east, I’m not your friend I’m telling you!

I’ve been working the whole day. But working from home because it’s snowing. And well.. since I’ve got a flight in the evening and I need to leave straight from home.

Thank goodness we live in the town centre. The roads are clear. No ice. Yippee! Passing through Bassett Avenue in Southampton just before we get on the motorway (M3) to go to Heathrow.. Never seen such a white glowy Southampton. It’s beautiful I think.

Parked the car in the long-stay car park. It’s still snowing but Bobbe refuses to take a jacket to Asia. So he’s just in his hoodie while I’ve got my fluffly puffy jacket on. We wait for the bus in the snowy cold which will take us to Terminal 2.

We’ve checked in and passed through security. Efficient as always. Bravo London (sarcasm in case you didn’t catch it). I see all the duty-free shops and my inner shopaholic screams to me. (I’ve got a thing for hand bags) But no – it’s Bobbe’s birthday we’re here for, let’s not be selfish! I can do this!

We have dinner at Yo! Sushi and board Singapore Airlines. I can smell the ‘premium’. This is by far the best airline I’ve been on. And I’m speaking economy – not business class!!

Unexpected Night in Singapore

Singapore. One of the first countries I’ve ever visited. My dad did a course there when I was something like 7 or 8 maybe, so our family constantly flew to visit him all the time. It’s one of the first countries I fell in love with.

Whenever I visit Singapore, it takes me right back to my childhood. And isn’t that always a good feeling?

For Bobbe, it reminded him of all the chicken rice he used to have when he visited Singapore as a young boy. So that’s the first thing we do. Go to a food court and have chicken rice. It was delicious. I’m glad as I can appreciate food more now than I did when I was ‘young’.

We never planned to stay the night in Singapore. But because of the snow in London, our flight was delayed. When we landed, there was a lady waiting and asked us whether we want to quickly go catch the Bangkok flight. But there was a caveat, our bags would not be arriving with us and will only be going the next morning. Luckily, she proposed another option, stay the night in Singapore (hotel, dinner and breakfast included) and leave with our bags the next morning. After thinking for one second we very happily decided to stay in Singapore.

We then take the MRT to go see the Marina Bay Sands. Because, why not? We get there to find out that there is a light & water show happening. We wait around and take a few pictures and it is just simply breathtaking.

Since the moment I found out we were staying the night in Singapore, I started texting my bff Shanna who lived in Singapore for 3 years. She tells me some amazing places to visit, one of which is Chijmes. We chill around on the bean bags in Chijmes very jet lagged.

It’s 2am and we’re hungry. So we walk to a market for food – again recommended by Shans. We stuff our face with fried noodles and decide to head back as our flight is early next morning. We get an Uber and head back where we managed to sleep for like an hour before the alarm went off…
